About The Position

Adjunct instructors plan and teach a variety of courses within the Arts & Sciences Division at West Kentucky Community & Technical College. Academic disciplines within this division include: Accounting, Art, Astronomy, Business, Communications, Criminal Justice, Economics, Education (Early Childhood & K-12), English, History, Life Sciences (Biology & Chemistry), Logistics & Operations Management, Math, Music, Philosophy, Physical Sciences (Astronomy, Geology, & Physics), Political Science, Psychology, Reading, Real Estate, Religion, Sociology, Spanish, Statistics, Social Work, Theater, and Visual Communication.

Requirements

  • For General Education Courses Designed for Transfer: Doctorate or master's degree in the teaching discipline or master's degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
  • For Technical Courses Not Designed for Transfer: Baccalaureate or associate degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. In lieu of the associate degree, alternative qualifications such as related work experience in the field, professional licensure and certifications related to the teaching assignment, honors and awards, continuing professional development, documented excellence in teaching, and/or other demonstrated competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes will be considered.
  • For Studio Art Courses: Master’s degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. In lieu of the degree, alternative qualifications such as related work experience in the field, honors and awards, continuing professional development, documented excellence in teaching, and/or other demonstrated artistic competencies and achievements that contribute to effective teaching and student learning outcomes will be considered.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly, integrate active learning, and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and college staff.
  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine commitment to student success.

Nice To Haves

  • College teaching experience with demonstrated effectiveness.
  • Experience working with community college students.
