About The Position

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), a Christian liberal arts university in the evangelical Wesleyan tradition, is accepting applications for its 2026–2027 online adjunct pool for the Master of Science in Integrative Wellness. The Division of Clinical Mental Health and Wellness seeks instructors to teach one or more courses in the graduate program. Courses are offered in three terms—Fall, Spring, and Summer—and run for eight weeks. Synchronous classes meet one day per week, Monday through Thursday, at course-dependent times, typically 5:00–6:15 p.m., 5:30–6:45 p.m., or 5:00–7:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Applicants must reside in one of the states listed in the posting.

Courses include Lifestyle Medicine and Whole Health; Evidence-Based Practice; Research Methods and Statistics for Health Professionals; Mind-Body Medicine; Health Equity and Social Justice; Behavior Change Models, Methods, and Theories; Foundations of Health and Well-Being Coaching; Culinary Medicine; Devising Well-Being Projects and Initiatives; Advanced Health and Well-Being Coaching; Wellness Entrepreneurship; Exercise and Nutrition for Health and Healing; Internship; Capstone Project in Integrative Wellness; and Lifestyle Medicine Board Review.

This is a part-time adjunct pool, and the number of instructors hired varies by semester and division needs. Inclusion in the pool does not guarantee an immediate opening. Approved applicants remain in the pool for the upcoming school year and must reapply to be considered for the following year. The stated adjunct pay range is $5,013–$6,684, using a three-unit full-semester appointment as a guide; actual pay depends on the units taught.

Offers are contingent on successful completion of a background check. If hired, official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended are required before a contract is issued.

Requirements

• At least one year of higher-education teaching experience.
• Relevant professional experience in lifestyle medicine and/or health and wellness coaching.
• For select courses, current ABLM/ACLM and/or NBC-HWC board certification is required.
• Commitment to teaching excellence.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate for effective graduate-level teaching.
• Knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
• Ability to learn and use the Canvas and Workday online systems for student grading.
• Ability to interact professionally with students, fellow faculty, educational institution representatives, and the general public.
• Thorough commitment to Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work at a Christian university.
• Support for the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
• Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
• Agreement to live in accordance with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
• Residency in one of the states listed in the posting: CA, CO, FL, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, NC, OH, OK, OR, TN, TX, UT, or WI.

Nice To Haves

• Terminal degree, such as a PhD, MD, DrPH, or EdD; an MA/MS is accepted with evidence of specialized experience.
• Advanced degree from an accredited institution in a health field (such as dietetics, nursing, kinesiology, or public health), behavioral science, or social science.
• Online teaching experience in a related area.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deliver, and review course materials and syllabi.
• Evaluate student performance and provide substantive feedback on class and assignment performance.
• Use Canvas for assignments, grading, and course structure.
• Promote student learning through relational teaching practices.
• Enter final grades in Workday.
• Provide accommodations for students who require them, in accordance with the PLNU Educational Access Center.
• Attend events and meetings identified by the division.
