About The Position

Prairie View A&M University’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction is establishing a pool of qualified applicants for potential non-tenure-track adjunct instructor appointments during the 2026–2027 academic year. Positions are temporary, part-time appointments assigned by semester on an as-needed basis, and employment is not guaranteed by joining the applicant pool. Responsibilities are limited to teaching assigned courses in the applicant’s verified area of expertise. Depending on course assignment, teaching may be online, hybrid, or face-to-face at the university campus and/or remotely. Selected applicants may teach up to six undergraduate or graduate semester credit hours in Spring 2027 or Summer 2027, subject to student demand. Teaching areas include Literacy/Reading, Mathematics Education, Social Studies Education, Science Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, and Educational Methods. In addition to teaching, instructors maintain student records, submit attendance reports, post midterm and final grades promptly, mentor and assist students, and hold at least three office hours per week. They develop and deliver standards-aligned syllabi, assignments, assessments, and timely feedback; follow approved curricula and program learning outcomes; use the university learning management system to maintain an accessible, organized course and communicate with students; and document student progress. Instructors may also participate in required orientation, training, course coordination, and assessment reporting, and perform other duties assigned by the department head. Undergraduate teaching requires a doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline, or a master’s degree with a concentration in that discipline, including at least 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline. Graduate and post-baccalaureate teaching requires an earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Credential determinations are course-specific and subject to institutional review. Applicants must identify each discipline they wish to teach and provide graduate transcripts documenting qualifying coursework. For undergraduate teaching through the master’s-plus-18-hour pathway, the required graduate hours must be documented separately for each proposed discipline. Compensation is per course and depends on factors including academic discipline, modality, and faculty credentialing. The minimum is $3,000 per section per semester.
