About The Position

The Department of Modern & Classical Languages has an opening for a part-time instructor to teach two sections of SPA 101 – Introductory Spanish in the Fall 2026 semester, beginning Monday, August 31, 2026. The schedule for the two classes is: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 am – 9:55 am; and 10:05 am – 11:00 am.

Requirements

  • Native or near native Spanish fluency
  • Thorough knowledge of subject matter
  • Ability to plan and present instructional material in a clear, logical and concise manner
  • Ability to maintain proper teacher-student relationship
  • Sound professional judgment
  • Initiative and resourcefulness

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in area of specialization

Responsibilities

  • Use a communicative approach to the teaching of a foreign language, using the target language as much as possible, with minimal English for clarification of some grammar points.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans and activities using a textbook that engage students in their study of beginning Spanish, following a syllabus provided by the Department Chair.
  • Prepare and grade chapter exams and quizzes, with resources provided by the textbook company.
  • Manage an online program for daily homework.
  • Evaluate student performance.
  • Maintain a class record and keep attendance.
  • Be available for students by appointment to help them with any specific problems they might be having with the course material.
