About The Position

Charles R. Drew University (CDU) is seeking an adjunct faculty member at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor for the Department of Health and Life Sciences. This position requires strong teaching expertise in Anatomy & Physiology and a demonstrated record of teaching experience. CDU is a mission-driven institution focused on community engagement, particularly in the Watts-Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, aiming to address healthcare disparities and provide equitable educational opportunities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in biomedical sciences or a related STEM field.
  • Meet competency requirement (experience in content area within the last five years).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong computer knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty and students.
  • Ability to maintain safety in the laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of teaching and clinical practice in a related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to perform and a commitment to extra-curricular responsibilities on behalf of the department, school, and University.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD in the related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of related teaching experience is desired.
  • A record of successful teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate programs is preferred.
  • Commitment to student learning outcomes and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the university’s mission.
  • A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to use multimedia instructional materials and computer-based educational platforms (smart board, WebCT/blackboard, Proctorio, university course management system PowerCampus).

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Anatomy & Physiology
  • Design, revise, and assess courses in alignment with CDU curricula, learning outcomes, and accreditation standards.
  • Employ inclusive, student-centered teaching strategies that support diverse learners.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
