About The Position

The Mathematics Department at Ferris State University seeks instructors for one or more math courses on a semester-by-semester basis. This is a pooled position, and one or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes. The posting is for face-to-face and/or online instruction. For in-person or hybrid teaching positions, candidates must reside in Michigan after being accepted for employment. Courses are to be taught in person at Ferris State University’s Big Rapids campus. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date will be August 2026 or January 2027. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate the potential for excellence in higher education teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with both faculty and students.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
  • Must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment (for in-person or hybrid positions).
  • Authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Participation in meetings and committees in the department and the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education is welcomed, but not required.
  • Doctoral degree (optional transcript submission).

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes in face-to-face, online, remote synchronous delivery, and mixed delivery modes.
  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours (at times convenient for students).
  • Participate in traditional academic functions, such as reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time.
  • May be required to teach off-campus or online.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
  • Cultivate an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
