About The Position

The School of Social Science and Global Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach upper- and Masters-level anthropology courses either online or face-to-face. The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching a one-semester online course, “ Heritage Resources and Public Policy”.

Requirements

  • 18 graduate hours of Anthropology.
  • Graduate degree in related field.
  • Knowledge of the teaching field; skill in delivering required knowledge and ability to engender learning in students.
  • Knowledge of the legislative basis of archaeological and historical policy, including NAGPRA
  • Collections development and curation skills.
  • Use of Canvas and ability to teach online both synchronous and asynchronous.
  • Professionalism in all activities, participating in a collegial, ethical and responsible manner.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from students, staff and administration in a timely manner as stipulated.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology and experience with online teaching.
  • Experience with Canvas.
  • Previous employment in Cultural Resource Management administration.
  • Registered professional archaeologist (RPA).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Anthropology classes as needed.
  • Attend program meetings as determined by the program coordinator.
  • Follow all university, college, and school policies regarding teaching practices and job performance.
  • Be responsive to communication from students, staff, and administration.
  • Hold regular office hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
