About The Position

Winthrop University, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university, announces a search for adjunct instructors of design, teaching for the Department of Design within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. This position requires the instructor to teach undergraduate courses, such as Design Fundamentals (DESF), Interior Design (INDS), or Visual Communication (VCOM). Candidates should demonstrate commitment to an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to design studies, at the foundation, intermediate, and advanced levels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in design practices including but not limited to game design, graphic design, illustration, and and/or interior design, as well as design research, design thinking, interactive and web design, and interactive digital products. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching, student engagement, and creating a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (MFA, MDes) in Design or a related discipline, OR a bachelor's degree in design (BA, BFA, BDes) with significant teaching and/or professional experience equivalent to a terminal degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and student engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2–3 years of university-level teaching experience (including graduate-level and adjunct teaching).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in industry.
  • Proficiency in drawing, drafting, and print production.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of printing pre-press principles and printing methodology.
  • Knowledge of user experience design and product design.
  • For interior design instructors: knowledge of AutoCad, Revit, SketchUp, codes and standards, contract documents, and rendering techniques with markers.
