About The Position

The David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship at High Point University seeks an Adjunct Event Management Instructor to teach EMG 2040: Major Sporting Events beginning in the upcoming semester. This course is a 2-credit elective within the Event Management (EMG) curriculum that explores the strategic planning, operations, and stakeholder relationships involved in hosting major sporting events. This course examines the distinctive characteristics of major sporting events within the global events industry, including the role of organizing committees, host cities, media partners, sponsors, and tourism stakeholders. Students will analyze how sporting events contribute to economic development, destination branding, and community engagement while also exploring the planning and operational complexities required to deliver successful events. Successful applicants will be assigned to teach this course in person on the campus of High Point University for the upcoming semester or placed in our adjunct pool for future consideration to teach additional Event Management courses.

Requirements

  • Education: A master’s degree in Event Management, Sport Management, Hospitality Management, MBA, or related degree program. Any graduate degree earned outside the U.S. will require a degree equivalency review (i.e., by World Education Services www.wes.org).

Nice To Haves

  • Collegiate teaching experience is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully teaches Event Management at the collegiate level
  • Deliver course content related to the planning, bidding, hosting, and evaluation of major sporting events.
  • Facilitate discussions and activities that examine host city development, venue operations, fan engagement, media partnerships, and event legacy planning.
  • Evaluate student learning through projects, presentations, quizzes, and participation.
  • Must answer student emails promptly and be willing to schedule occasional appointments to meet with students.
