About The Position

Ilisagvik College is rooted in the ancestral homeland of the Iñupiat. As an institution, we are “Unapologetically Iñupiaq.” This means exercising the sovereign inherent freedom to educate our community through and supported by our Iñupiaq worldview, values, knowledge, and protocols. The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners. This position teaches courses within the Academic Affairs Program in Fall 2026. The Fall semester begins 8/18/26 and concludes 11/26/26. Ilisagvik College welcomes applications from the local Utqiaġvik community for these courses.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in the subject area.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the area of instruction or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate degree or equivalent in the area of instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
  • Develops and submits current syllabus, using the college template.
  • Prepares administrative documents, such as student withdrawals and attendance.
  • Evaluates student performance and submits grades to the registrar.
  • Maintain office hours (in-person, telephonically, or online).
  • Participates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the college’s current technologies and learning platform.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
