About The Position

The Department of English at Calvin University is seeking applications for part-time instruction in creative writing, specifically fiction. There may also be a need to teach English 101: Written Rhetoric. This appointment is for the spring semester, commencing January 2027.

Requirements

  • A commitment to the Christian faith and a willingness to integrate that faith into classroom teaching and student development.
  • Affirmation of the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed.
  • A strong and active record of publication in fiction.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods and instructional technology.
  • Commitment to the educational mission of Calvin as a Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church.
  • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communication across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, physical limitations, class, or religious perspectives.

Nice To Haves

  • MFA degree.
  • Teaching at the university level.
