About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Pearl City, HI, for the Humanities program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for the following course(s): Introduction to Philosophy (PHIL 100), Introduction to Moral Philosophy and Ethical Reasoning (PHIL 140), Contemporary Social Justice Issues (PHIL 304), Technology and Culture (HUMN 344), and Myth in the World (HUMN 351). UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners and the U.S. military community. The adjunct faculty role involves actively engaging students, guiding them in collaboration and application of learning, providing constructive feedback, demonstrating subject-matter expertise, and contributing to curricular improvements.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Philosophy, Humanities, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Professional experience in ethics teaching or a related field.
• Experience teaching adult learners online in higher education is highly preferred.
• This position is specifically to teach onsite at Pearl City, HI.
• Successfully complete UMGC's online two-week new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Terminal degree in Philosophy, Humanities, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
