About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach on-site at Pearl City, HI, for the Humanities program. Specifically, we are seeking faculty for courses such as Introduction to Philosophy (PHIL 100), Introduction to Moral Philosophy and Ethical Reasoning (PHIL 140), Contemporary Social Justice Issues (PHIL 304), Technology and Culture (HUMN 344), and Myth in the World (HUMN 351). The role involves actively engaging students, guiding them in collaboration and application of learning, providing constructive feedback, demonstrating subject-matter expertise, and contributing to curricular improvements. UMGC is a mission-driven institution committed to adult learners and the U.S. military, seeking scholar-practitioners who are professionals actively engaged in their field and wish to help the next generation grow.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Philosophy, Humanities, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in ethics teaching or a related field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online in higher education is highly preferred.
  • This position is specifically to teach onsite at Pearl City, HI.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
