About The Position

Liberty University seeks adjunct architectural educators and professionals to contribute to the innovative teaching of architectural subjects and courses within the new Architecture & Design Program. Teaching will focus on instruction and continued course development toward NAAB accreditation in advanced architectural design studios at the upper undergraduate and/or graduate levels. The position may also teach supporting skills, technologies, or environmental systems courses as approved by the Director of the Program. Adjuncts are expected to model a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage in active commitment to and experience of personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. Teaching, student engagement, and scholarship should be viewed as means to a significant educational end, employing a variety of techniques for developing good learning conditions, viewing each student as unique, and providing for individual differences, abilities, and interests.

Requirements

Master of Architecture (M. Arch) degree or a professional terminal degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited institution.
At least five years of tested professional experience and/or related university-level teaching experience.
Provide evidence of, or the potential for, effective teaching, tested professional expertise, creative/scholarly activity, public communication, and professional collegiality.
Demonstrated strength or potential in teaching at the college level, with familiarity in the use of collaborative and online learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction.
Proven organizational skills and ability to complete assignments timely and accurately with minimal supervision.
Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of experience, skills, and abilities.
Possess excellent interpersonal, empathetic, customer service, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff, as well as public entities.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond articulately and professionally.
Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
Strong organizational skills.
Computer skills (e.g. discipline-related technologies, online teaching platforms).
Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Nice To Haves

Ph.D. in Architecture or a closely related field to the subject of study.
Professional Licensure and NCARB certificate with significant professional project experience prioritized for teaching upper-level and advanced courses.
Significant teaching experience with proven creative/scholarly work in areas of disciplinary expertise.

Responsibilities

Teaching subject material according to approved curriculum and assigned schedule to promote student fulfillment, professional training, and academic excellence.
Mentoring and aspiring students in matters related to exemplary academics, attendance, professionalism, and behaviors, while guiding students in achieving successful completions of clear course objectives, learning outcomes, and quality expectations.
Providing regularly scheduled reviews and assessments of student work and delivering timely feedback and clear revisory strategies toward expected outcomes.
Maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Participating in school retention initiatives by maintaining productive class contact and outreach, while offering assistance to absent and/or at-risk students.
Motivating students to actively participate and support in all aspects of educational, professional, and creative processes in accordance with the program’s code of ethics.
Maintaining university standards regarding course activity, emails, grading, and communication with the Instructional Mentor and students.
Maintaining continued course development and end-of-semester assessments toward meeting NAAB accreditation goals in communication with the Instructional Mentor.
Strictly adhering to Liberty University policies and The Liberty Way – Student Honor Code, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
Working effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
