About The Position

HDR is seeking an Architectural Design Intern to join its Atlanta studio and support its commitment to achieving a regenerative and carbon-balanced building portfolio by 2030. The intern will gain hands-on experience on projects that may include healthcare, water, and master planning, working under the guidance of architects, project managers, and other professionals.

The role participates in the full design process, developing alternative solutions and creating presentation graphics to communicate concepts to clients and stakeholders. The intern also collaborates on design development, including drawings and models, and assists production teams with technical details and construction documents. HDR internships offer opportunities to build knowledge, connect with peers and leaders through mentoring programs and the Young Professionals Network, and contribute to real project assignments.

Requirements

• Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.
• Commitment to being an active participant in HDR's employee-owned culture.

Nice To Haves

• Two years completed toward a degree and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to the field of study or industry, including Rhino.
• Experience and/or interest in low-carbon and healthy materials.
• Experience and/or interest in regenerative design or LBC.
• Experience and/or interest in sustainable design, LEED, or SDGs.
• Experience and/or interest in Fitwel or WELL.
• Experience and/or interest in the AIA Framework for Design Excellence.
• Preference given to a local candidate.

Responsibilities

• Work on projects, including healthcare, water, and master planning.
• Work under the guidance of architects, project managers, and other professionals on real assignments.
• Participate in the full design process by developing alternative solutions and creating presentation graphics to communicate concepts to clients and stakeholders.
• Collaborate on design development, including drawings and models.

• Perform additional duties as needed to support project success.
