About The Position

Contributing faculty members teach Walden University students part-time, using online technology and resources to deliver instruction, feedback, and critique through thoughtful, well-written, and timely communications. Faculty members are expected to follow Walden University faculty expectations and maintain a respectful learning environment. Faculty are assigned primarily Blended Academic Year in Residence (BAYR) courses through the Blackboard platform. They engage with students in asynchronous discussion boards, grade assignments, answer questions within 48 hours, and deliver two synchronous sessions per quarter. BAYR courses include asynchronous, synchronous, and in-person instruction, with most instruction delivered asynchronously using university-designed curriculum. Synchronous duties include two course hours per quarter and one to two hours for professional development and student advising during the BAYR course sequence. Travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, is required for a seven-day in-person component during the 12-week quarter; faculty should expect to teach approximately four to five hours per day during that component. Walden provides new faculty with training in teaching techniques, electronic learning platforms, school or college policies and degree programs, university culture, academic integrity assessment, and thesis and dissertation research supervision. New faculty receive support from Core Faculty during their first taught course. Faculty are expected to be reasonably accessible to students outside class, publish their availability, and provide substantive feedback. The university suggests regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or chats. Faculty may have the opportunity to teach at domestic or international university doctoral residencies, although part-time faculty are not required to attend. Residency teaching is compensated with an additional stipend. Faculty are also expected to participate in doctoral dissertation committees; mentoring assignments are compensated with an additional stipend per student mentored. Faculty must maintain a doctoral-level Psychologist license and any applicable certifications, and stay current with research. The role requires an adequate computer, keyboard, monitor, reliable internet access with an alternate access option, and the ability to use Microsoft Office, online meeting software, zip software, and Adobe Acrobat.
