About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach on-site at CSM La Plata, MD for the Accounting program. Specifically, the role involves teaching courses such as Principles of Accounting I (ACCT 220), Principles of Accounting II (ACCT 221), and Accounting Information Systems (ACCT 326). UMGC is a mission-driven institution dedicated to adult learners, including military personnel and their families, emphasizing flexibility and diverse options. As an adjunct faculty member, the primary goal is to help students succeed by actively engaging them, guiding collaborative learning, providing constructive feedback, demonstrating current subject-matter expertise, and contributing to curricular improvements.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Professional experience in Accounting or related field
  • This position is specifically to teach on-site at CSM La Plata, MD.
  • Successfully complete our online two-week new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred
  • Certifications such as the CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning.
  • Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
  • Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.
