About The Position

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education serving Central Virginia. The college is seeking qualified and interested adjunct faculty members in Communication Studies, specifically for in-person instruction of Principles of Public Speaking within The Higher Education in Prison Program. This program offers incarcerated learners the opportunity to earn a transfer associate degree at facilities including Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, Buckingham Correctional Center, and Dillwyn Correctional Center. Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis and are responsible for teaching developmental and/or college-level courses, which may include distance-learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Instruction is primarily face-to-face with the possibility of remote instruction.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Communication Studies or a related field, or a Master's degree with 18 graduate credit hours in Communication Studies.
  • Experience teaching Principles of Public Speaking.
  • Willingness to teach in a correctional facility setting.
  • Ability to teach face-to-face and potentially remotely.

  • Experience working with incarcerated populations.
  • Experience with distance learning platforms.
