About The Position

The Department of Music at Jacksonville State University (Jax State) invites applications for an adjunct music industry instructor. The successful applicant will teach courses such as music industry history, contemporary issues and trends in the music industry, marketing/entrepreneurship, and arts management. Our department offers undergraduate programs of study in Music Education, Music Industry, Music Performance, and General Music. In addition, the department offers graduate programs in General Music and Music Education. A minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline is required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 credit hours in the discipline or related field
  • Knowledge of the structure of the music industry
  • Knowledge of record labels and music licensing agencies
  • Knowledge of digital content creation and distribution
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of arts management which includes US copyright law
  • Ability to analyze industry data and trends
  • Ability to operate production software
  • Ability to interpret contract language and design agreements
  • Ability to coordinate music events
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate how to manage budgets and finances

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in discipline
  • Industry experience in management, production, publishing or marketing

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate students in the following courses: The History of the Music Industry, Music Licensing & Intellectual Property, Contemporary Issues in the Music Industry, and Arts Management and Concert Production.
