About The Position

Cecil College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct Professor of Music to teach private one-on-one music lessons to undergraduate students. The ideal candidate will have specialization with a specific instrument and provide individualized instruction that fosters technical proficiency, artistic growth, and academic development in accordance with departmental standards. The term "Adjunct" has a very specific meaning. An Adjunct Faculty is a contract employee hired to teach specific course(s) during an academic term on a part-time basis. An Adjunct Faculty member is not eligible for benefits. Details: For a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30), the Adjunct Faculty Member shall serve as a part-time employee of the College. Adjunct Faculty may teach no more than 24 credit hours per fiscal year. Adjunct faculty will receive a master adjunct contract, as well as course specific contract. Each course specific contract shall list: 1) the Adjunct Faculty members name, employee number, address and phone number; and 2) the course number, course title, number of credit hours, start date, end date, account code and the payment amount.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in related discipline.
  • Only completed applications (resume, letter of application and unofficial transcripts) will receive consideration.
  • Only applicants who are authorized to work in the United States will be eligible for hire.
  • Prior teaching experience in college/university setting in the related field.
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  • Employees of Cecil College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships.

Responsibilities

  • Convey the course material so that students can attain the instructional objectives of the course.
  • If requested to do so by the Department Chairperson, complete a course assessment for courses taught under the terms of this contract.
  • Ensure that all course material is available to students the first day of class via Cecil College’s Learning Management system.
  • Meet program specific requirements for employment and supervision of students in any externship or capstone course.
  • Hold classes for the full amount of time specified. Notify the Academic Programs Office if there is an urgent reason to miss class.
  • Be reasonably accessible to students via email or in person, return students’ assignments in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate quality learning experiences for students.
  • Develop and implement classroom lesson plans and learning activities, including but not limited to; lectures, videos, demonstrations, and role-play.
  • Teach specific hours or contact hours per week as assigned.
  • Assist with student advisement and remediation.
  • Use the College’s Academic Monitoring and Learning Management System to document attendance and grades per Cecil College procedures. Submit grades and all other end of the semester documentation in a timely manner.
  • Use the College email account assigned to the member shall be used for College communications and shall check that account on a daily basis.
