About The Position

Walden University is an accredited graduate institution dedicated to student-centered distance education and social change. The university is seeking Faculty for its Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to teach and mentor students. The program aims to prepare students academically, professionally, and personally to become skilled counselors, based on a scholar-practitioner model, culturally relevant pedagogy, academic and experiential learning, and developmental instruction with an emphasis on personal growth. The M.S. in Mental Health Counseling program holds accreditation from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). New Faculty Members receive specific training from Walden University in online teaching techniques, the use of an electronic learning platform, university policies, degree programs, socialization into the Walden University culture, assessment of academic integrity, and research supervision for theses and dissertations.

Requirements

  • Appropriately credentialed
  • Possess an earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught
  • May be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs
  • Maintain licenses and any appropriate certifications
  • Maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Reliable Internet access as well as alternate access in cases where primary access becomes unavailable
  • Earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program at an accredited institution
  • Current state licensure as a mental health professional
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring for students in the research process
  • Strongly student-centered nature
  • Interest in establishing a community of mental health students
  • Ability to provide leadership and support in program assessment
  • Ability to assume a significant role in addressing student questions and concerns about the program
  • Experience supervising students in their field training experience
  • Commitment to the goals of diversity and social change
  • Ability to work with non-traditional students
  • Ability to participate in residencies/pre-practica, national faculty meetings and other work-related travel
  • Adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching and mentoring Master's and/or Doctoral level students, including directing thesis/dissertation research

Responsibilities

  • Interact with students within the Blackboard platform
  • Post to the classroom a minimum of 4 days per week
  • Respond to student questions within 48 hours
  • Verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions
  • Provide feedback and grades to students through Blackboard
  • Publish availability to students through course syllabi
  • Attend residencies/Pre-practica held domestically, teach intensives and colloquia, and facilitate school and university-wide discussions (if asked)
  • Complete training in dissertation chairing and service and serve on doctoral dissertations (if eligible)
  • Complete other duties as assigned
