About The Position

Walden University is seeking Faculty for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to teach and mentor students in their role as mental health counselors. The program focuses on preparing students academically, professionally, and personally to become skilled counselors, based on a philosophical foundation of the scholar-practitioner model, culturally relevant pedagogy and practice, academic and experiential learning, and developmental instruction with an emphasis on personal growth. The M.S. in Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Requirements

  • Adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform, keyboard, pointing device, and computer monitor.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint), zip software, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Reliable Internet access as well as alternate access.
  • Appropriately credentialed.
  • Earned degree from an accredited institution or recognized by a country's ministry of education in the discipline being taught.
  • May be expected to be licensed or license-eligible in order to teach in specific programs.
  • Maintain licenses and any appropriate certifications.
  • Maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations.
  • Earned doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program at an accredited institution.
  • Current state licensure as a mental health professional.
  • Ability to provide leadership and mentoring for students in the research process.
  • Strongly student-centered nature.
  • Interest in establishing a community of mental health students.
  • Ability to provide leadership and support in program assessment.
  • Ability to assume a significant role in addressing student questions and concerns about the program.
  • Ability to work with non-traditional students.
  • Ability to participate in residencies/pre-practica, national faculty meetings and other work-related travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching and mentoring Master's and/or Doctoral level students, including directing thesis/dissertation research preferred.
  • Experience supervising students in their field training experience.
  • Commitment to the goals of diversity and social change.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and mentor students in the Mental Health Counseling program.
  • Interact with students within the Blackboard platform.
  • Post responses to the classroom discussion boards in a timely manner, a minimum of 4 days per week.
  • Respond to student questions within 48 hours.
  • Verify the accuracy of student postings and submissions.
  • Provide feedback and grades to students through Blackboard.
  • Publish availability to students through course syllabi, suggesting regular and predictable availability such as online office hours or regular online chats.
  • Attend residencies/Pre-practica domestically to teach intensives and colloquia, and facilitate school and university-wide discussions.
  • Complete training in dissertation chairing and service.
  • Serve on doctoral dissertations.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
