About The Position

Belmont College is seeking a qualified and industry-experienced Adjunct Faculty member in Occupational Safety and Health to support Workforce Development and employer training initiatives across Eastern Ohio. This position is designed for a practical safety professional who can deliver high-quality workforce training to incumbent workers, transitional workers, employers, and community partners in both classroom and hands-on industrial settings. The ideal candidate will possess OSHA-authorized instructor credentials and demonstrate the ability to teach OSHA 10-hour and OSHA 30-hour training programs, along with specialized workplace safety procedures including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazard communication, workplace incident prevention, and site-specific industrial safety practices. Candidates with forklift safety training credentials or experience are strongly encouraged to apply. This position may teach courses in Belmont County and/or Jefferson County, as well as occasional off-site employer locations throughout the region. This is a part-time adjunct position with flexible scheduling based on employer demand and course offerings. Instruction may occur during daytime, evening, or occasional weekend hours.

Requirements

  • OSHA Authorized Trainer status or equivalent OSHA instructional qualifications
  • Ability to teach OSHA 10-hour and OSHA 30-hour courses
  • Minimum of two (2) years of occupational health, safety, industrial, manufacturing, construction, or related field experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to teach both classroom and hands-on instructional formats
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between Belmont and Jefferson County instructional locations

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching or training adult learners
  • Forklift safety instructor certification or operational safety training experience
  • Experience with industrial maintenance, manufacturing, construction, utilities, transportation, or heavy equipment environments
  • Prior experience conducting employer-based or on-site safety training
  • Familiarity with Appalachian Ohio workforce and industry needs

Responsibilities

  • Conduct organized classes at the instructional level to meet the educational requirements stated in the course description and objectives.
  • Guide students through course curriculum through in classroom instruction and online as needed.
  • Develop, teach, and evaluate all assigned courses incorporating active learning strategies while recognizing and adapting teaching style to the educational needs of the individual students.
  • Update the course syllabi with instructor information and provide Belmont College with an electronic copy every semester.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans, course outlines, and other instructional materials as needed for effective instruction.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate examinations and other assessment methodologies to measure Core Learning Outcomes and direct measures of student learning.
  • Evaluate the progress of each student; notify students of progress.
  • Submit grades electronically for assigned students by the deadline for each semester and at other intervals as required to maintain appropriate grading documentation.
  • Be available via email and phone throughout the week to answer student questions regarding course content.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Executive VP/Workforce Development staff.
  • Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Participate in enrollment management by promoting retention of students.
  • Assess, plan, and implement College and faculty policies.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development activities to assure currency in both discipline, knowledge, and instructional methods.
  • Deliver workforce and employer-focused safety training programs in a professional, engaging, and practical manner.
  • Teach OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification courses in construction and/or general industry environments.
  • Provide instruction in advanced safety topics including: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication, PPE and workplace hazard mitigation, Workplace safety compliance procedures, Industrial and construction site safety practices.
  • Conduct hands-on demonstrations and applied safety exercises.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, credentialing, and course completion documentation.
  • Adapt instruction to a wide range of learners, including incumbent workers, adult learners, and entry-level trainees.
  • Collaborate with Workforce Development staff to customize training for regional employers.
  • Assist with curriculum enhancement and industry alignment as needed.
  • Promote a positive and safety-focused learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
