About The Position

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks adjunct faculty to teach online in the Homeland Security, Intelligence, and Emergency Management programs. This position is specifically to teach remotely. UMGC is committed to helping students achieve success not only with us, but also in their professional fields. As a result, we actively seek faculty members who are scholar-practitioners: professionals who are actively and successfully engaged in their field who additionally wish to help the next generation of professionals grow in their knowledge and expertise through education. Your role as an adjunct faculty member will be to: Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed, and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning. Guide students in active collaboration and the application of their learning in problem- and project-based learning demonstrations. Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilizing rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work, and acknowledging student accomplishments. Demonstrate relevant and current subject-matter expertise, and help students connect concepts across their academic program. Provide feedback to your program chair on possible curricular improvements.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Homeland Security, National Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management, Public Safety or Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Professional experience in homeland security and emergency preparedness to include strategy development, disaster prevention and recovery management, natural and human-made threats, anti-terrorism, cyber security, border security, critical infrastructure and facilities protection, immigration and customs, resilience planning and management, security risk assessments, and legal, ethical and constitutional issues.
  • Knowledge of: emergency management principles to include the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Comprehensive Preparedness Guide (CPG). and the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).
  • Experience in disaster, crisis and response planning and management, continuity of operations, emergency action planning (EAP) and emergency operations planning (EOP) OR Professional experience and knowledge in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) collection, analysis, counterintelligence and insider threats, counterterrorism, cyber intelligence and espionage, resource acquisition and management, and intelligence policy, oversight, and budgeting processes for national security and law enforcement.
  • Each new faculty member is required to successfully complete our online two-week new faculty orientation, FacDev 411, as a condition of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching adult learners online and higher education is strongly preferred.
  • Terminal Degree in Homeland Security, National Security, Intelligence, Emergency Management or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Ten years of professional managerial, operations and/or staff experience in related field preferred.
