About The Position

Adjunct Faculty, Graphic Design is responsible for preparing and delivering graphic design coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all and knowledge of the teaching field. This role meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Art, Graphic Design, Commercial Art, Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Printing/Production, or Visual Communication.
  • Documentable 3 years of non-teaching industry-relevant work experience.
  • Explain the role of the graphic designer and the design workflow within a studio environment.
  • Describe best practices of creative collaboration with internal and external teams.
  • Describe the effective use of graphic design principles and processes to produce designs.
  • Identify current visual trends and movements in graphic and interactive design.
  • Describe the production workflow of printed or digital assets a.) within a design studio environment and b.) with industry-related vendors (such as offset printers, large format printers, screen printers, web developers, etc.).
  • Upload a cover letter - explaining interest in the position.
  • Upload an updated Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) or Résumé.
  • Provide a portfolio that includes examples of visual assets for print and digital applications. The portfolio can be: a pdf portfolio or a link to a website of recent professional work.
  • Provide documented evidence of training in digital media (college transcripts or software training certification).
  • Upload unofficial/copy of transcripts.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience with HTML/CSS and visual design.
  • If you have teaching experience, please include examples of both student work and evidence of curriculum development.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach graphic design courses to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes. Courses topics may include: Design processes and frameworks, Typography, Branding, Environmental design, Packaging, Multichannel campaigns, Publication design, Concept development, Design studio processes, Website design, Portfolio development.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise through the use of advanced features in one or more of the following Adobe Creative Suite software: InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
  • Make appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
