The College of Lake County (CLC) is seeking an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Criminal Justice classes. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law -OR- Master’s degree with at least eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in a related discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Experience using Zoom and comfort teaching in a multi-modality setting with both in-person and remote students.
  • Competency in technologies commonly used in college-level instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior college-level teaching experience in Criminal Justice.
  • Demonstrated professional learning or certification in evidence-based student-focused pedagogical teaching and assessment practice such as ACUE, workshops and data use.
  • Two years relevant business experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in subject field.
  • Develop instructional materials, including course plans, syllabi, objectives, and evaluation tools.
  • Assess student learning and assign grades.
  • Attend required Adjunct meetings in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Participate in college governance and other aspects of academic life.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and compliance training (Title IX “Responsible Employee” and Clery Act Campus Security Authority, if applicable).
  • Select, prepare, and maintain current curriculum, course outlines, and instructional materials.
  • Teach courses as scheduled each academic semester.
  • Provide instructional support to students and refer them to appropriate college services.
  • Provide students with a syllabus including course objectives, learning outcomes, attendance policies, texts, readings, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, or examinations, and provide timely feedback.
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles.
  • Maintain office, discipline, grade, and division records as required.
  • Be available for student consultation via phone or email.
  • Resolve and document student complaints, concerns, and problems using appropriate college policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing and administering discipline-appropriate measures of student academic achievement and departmental testing instruments.
  • Conduct all classes in accordance with the established course syllabus and approved materials.
  • Meet all classes for the scheduled time.
  • Submit all grades electronically prior to deadlines.
  • Provide the Registrar with appropriate grade records.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Revise and update course content as needed.
  • Participate in program advisory boards, college, division, and department committees as appropriate.
  • Maintain a high level of professional ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Associate Dean.
