About The Position

The University of St. Thomas Biology Department is seeking adjunct faculty members to teach lecture courses in either BIOL 208 – Biological Communication and Energetics, or BIOL 209 – Biology of Sustainability, for the Fall 2026 semester. These are non-tenure track appointments. Both courses are 4-credit core Biology courses for majors. While course materials are available, instructors will have some flexibility to modify them. Current faculty with experience teaching these courses will provide mentorship. BIOL 208 is a lecture-based course focusing on cellular and molecular biology, with a class size capped at 48. BIOL 209 is a discussion-based, interactive class focusing on environmental challenges, with a class size capped at 24. The university seeks candidates committed to facilitating meaningful student-faculty experiences that empower students to succeed and solve problems for the common good.

Requirements

  • Expertise in the subject matter covered in the courses.
  • For BIOL 208, expertise in cell and molecular biology.
  • For BIOL 209, expertise in ecology, evolution, environmental science, and related fields.
  • Masters degree in Biology or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Some experience leading a college-level lecture class is preferred.
  • PhD is preferred.
  • PhD in related field is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction using student-engaged pedagogical approaches
  • Provide timely feedback to students regarding their grades and progress in the course

Benefits

  • The salary range for the College of Arts and Sciences Adjunct positions ranges from $5,994 to $6,717 (per 4 credit undergraduate course). Rate of pay is determined by academic credential and years of teaching experience.
