About The Position

The faculty member will conduct their assignments and co-curricular college activities in a manner consistent with the philosophy and purpose of Aims Community College as stated in the school catalog. The primary purpose of the faculty member is to teach. The faculty member is also responsible for professional development and service to the college. Primary responsibility is to instruct, plan, organize, and operate within the Aims FAA approved part 147 aircraft maintenance training school (AMTS). This includes supervising and maintaining a safe environment for students in maintenance labs, developing and building classroom aids, and maintaining lab equipment, tooling, and aircraft. Assist in the development and/or modification of curriculum to meet changing technology in the aviation industry, as well as new courses and/or programs. Assist the Aviation Maintenance Chief, Executive Director of Aviation Programs, or Academic Dean as necessary with monitoring and maintaining simulators, tooling, equipment, and aircraft. Participate in student evaluations, advising, registration, and recruiting and retention activities. Must participate in department, division, and college activities while complying with college policies, procedures, mandates, and FAA guidance. Stay current in professional areas by participating in professional development activities. Maintain contact with the FAA and aviation industry as directed by the Aviation Maintenance Chief and/or the Executive Director of Aviation Programs. Assist the Aviation Maintenance Chief and/or the Executive Director of Aviation Programs with evaluation and selection of textbooks and course materials. Support implementation of college and departmental missions and goals. Perform other duties as assigned by the Aviation Maintenance Chief, Executive Director of Aviation Programs, and/or Academic Dean.

Requirements

• Faculty must have an Aims CTE Credential to teach these courses.
• AMT 1101: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in aircraft drawing and blueprint reading, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 1102: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in precision measuring tools and the use of hand tools, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 1103: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in aircraft materials, mechanical processes, hardware, mechanical torque, welding and welding inspections, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 1104: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in basic electricity, ac and dc circuits, circuit troubleshooting, use of multimeters and other electrical test equipment, batteries and aircraft power generation, digital electronics and electrical systems, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 1105: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in aircraft inspections and inspection requirements, corrosion and corrosion control, non-destructive testing , safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 1106: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with one or more appropriate ratings (Airframe and/or Powerplant) with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in federal aviation regulations, aviation maintenance forms, records and publications, accident and incident reporting, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2101 : Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in metallic structures, structural aircraft design and construction, aircraft sheet metal repairs, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2102: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in non-metallic structures, structural aircraft design and construction, composite materials, composite repairs, aircraft fabric and painting, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2103: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in structural integrity of an aircraft, including the fuselage, wings, and landing gear, and the systems that control them, such as hydraulic and pneumatic, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2104 : Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in aircraft electrical systems and wiring focused on the basic aircraft instrument and avionics systems, safety and human factors IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2105 : Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of general aviation experience to teach broad rules and requirements for all civilian aviation, as well as foundational knowledge in structural integrity of an aircraft, including the fuselage, wings, and landing gear, and the systems that control them, with a focus on aircraft inspections, rotorcraft and sUAS IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2106 : Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with Airframe rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of experience with structural integrity of an aircraft, including the fuselage, wings, and landing gear, and the systems that control them, such as hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems focused on the aircraft's mechanical structure, excluding engines and propellers, and include topics like structures, flight controls, oxygen, fire detection and environmental systems maintenance and inspections IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2107: Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with Powerplant rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of aviation or aerospace engine experience to teach aircraft reciprocating engine basic theory, major systems (which include fuel, lubrication, and ignition). The scope also extends to the systems that work with the engine, like engine instruments, electrical, and fire protection systems, and includes knowledge of inspection, maintenance, and relevant regulations IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• AMT 2108 : Current FAA Part 65 mechanic certificate with Powerplant rating with a minimum of 1 year experience; OR one-year documented military occupational experience in aircraft maintenance; OR must have 3 or more years of aviation or aerospace engine experience to teach aircraft turbine and/or turboprop engine basic theory, major systems (which include fuel, lubrication, and ignition). The scope also extends to the systems that work with the engine, like engine instruments, electrical, and fire protection systems, and includes knowledge of inspection, maintenance, and relevant regulations IAW 14 CFR Part 147 Airman Certification Standards.
• Shall hold or qualify for a full-time, post-secondary vocational credential in Aviation issued by Aims Community College CTE Office.
• Ability to teach using methodologies that support a student-centered learning environment.
• Computer literacy and the ability to use computer technology in classroom/lab instruction.
• A willingness to take classes in teaching methods, curriculum development, computer applications or other coursework deemed necessary by the Aviation Maintenance Chief, Executive Director, or Academic Dean.
• A positive attitude toward teaching courses in varied modalities, including online, synchronous remote and traditional face-to-face.
• The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.
• A pre-employment urine analysis will be required of the selected candidate.

Nice To Haves

• Associates degree in Aviation Maintenance or another related field.
• Experience teaching and supporting traditionally under-served student populations.
• A demonstrated aptitude for developing course content and teaching in varied modalities: online, synchronous remote, traditional face-to-face, and blended (hybrid) versions of each.

Responsibilities

• Instruct assignments which may include a variety of courses in aviation.

• Maintain proficiency and currency in the field through active involvement in professional organizations and attending conferences.
