About The Position

This position will begin teaching in Fall 2026 and continue as classes are available. Sections offered will most likely be in the afternoon or evenings and all will include on-campus/face-to-face lectures and labs. Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in the state of Washington. LWTech offers 12 bachelor's degrees , 42 associate degrees , and 70 professional certificates in 41 areas of study , including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. LWTech serves the Eastside and is located within the city of Kirkland, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Washington. Kirkland is home to companies such as GoDaddy, Google, Astronics and EvergreenHealth, and the college is within minutes from Microsoft and Nintendo. The college is seeking a qualified adjunct professor for anatomy and physiology courses, as well as other general cell biology courses. This position will start Fall quarter 2026. LWTech offers the BIOL&241, BIOL&242, two quarter sequence for pre-health sciences students as well as a compressed survey course of Introduction to Human Biology (Biol&175). An instructor who can teach all the courses in the sequence is preferred. Full course outlines can be accessed in the college’s online catalog at Lake Washington Institute of Technology .

Requirements

  • Masters degree in biology or a closely related field with a clear, strong focus on anatomy and physiology
  • 2 years teaching experience required; college teaching experience preferred
  • Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations
  • Due to the diversity of the college population, we encourage applicants who are multilingual
  • Experience in a student-centric and hands-on learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach to the learning outcomes of the approved curriculum
  • Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals
  • Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction, and self-directed learning
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
  • Develop and teach lessons which foster and support equitable student learning and cultural diversity
  • Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
  • Develop classroom and lab procedures in conformance with identified policies and procedures
  • Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
  • Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (Canvas)
  • Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
  • Work cooperatively within the department, the division, and throughout the College in striving for educational excellence
