About The Position

Capitol Technology University is seeking a contracted Adjunct Doctoral Dissertation Chair. This remote, part-time, 12-month position involves working directly with Doctoral students to prepare them for their courses and dissertation research. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic educator with innovative ideas for interdisciplinary approaches, experience teaching in multiple modalities, and the ability to motivate student excellence. Faculty dedicate 100% of their time to teaching, which includes course preparation, instruction, dissertation chairing, learning assessment, and curriculum review. This role maintains a high level of visibility with both on-campus and online students.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in a closely aligned field relevant to Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Intelligence & Global Security, Cybersecurity Leadership, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Cyberpsychology programs.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • At least five years of professional experience within the last 10 years in a subject area relevant to the Graduate School programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the research discipline, including qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies, statistical testing, data analysis techniques, relevant analysis software, and ethical principles of research.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of course delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Understanding of the current American Psychological Association (APA) formatting guidelines.
  • Commitment to collegiality with faculty and staff in support of the university’s mission and goals.
  • Teaching experience of five years or more, to include at least two years teaching and/or chairing dissertations at the doctoral level.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work with faculty, students, and industry partners on various projects.
  • Ability to master the use of technology platforms: Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in academic disciplines relevant to doctoral programs.
  • Mentor students through course curriculum and program milestones as a Dissertation Chair.
  • Help students formulate a long-term plan for research and writing of the dissertation, including a timetable and tentative completion date.
  • Maintain high visibility for assigned students through regular communications and meetings.
  • Respond to students' emails and voicemails in a timely fashion.
  • Mentor and advise students on academic and publication development.
  • Manage classrooms in person, via Zoom, and within the Canvas LMS, including preparing syllabi, assignments, activities, and timely grading.
  • Respond to student emails within 2 business days of receipt.
  • Respond to student submissions within 5 business days with substantive feedback.
  • Maintain professional competencies in research, subject area, and instructional methodologies.
  • Teach in a multimodal environment (on campus, simultaneous instruction, Live Online) and use LMS (Canvas).
  • Develop understanding of and participation in asynchronous instruction.
  • Support student success initiatives by making timely referrals to the advising team.
  • Effectively use Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
