About The Position

Capitol Technology University is seeking a passionate Adjunct Doctoral Committee Member to work directly with Doctoral students, preparing them for their courses and dissertation research. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, visionary educator with innovative ideas for interdisciplinary approaches, experience teaching in multiple modalities, and the ability to motivate student excellence. Committee Members dedicate 100% of their time to assisting doctoral students on their dissertation process, including draft review, providing substantive feedback, attending oral defenses, and final approval. This is a semester-based, contracted position with visibility to online students. Applicants with traditional and non-traditional backgrounds, teaching or dissertation committee experience, and at least 5 years of work experience in relevant fields are encouraged to apply, particularly those in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Intelligence & Global Security, Cybersecurity Leadership, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Cyberpsychology.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in a closely aligned field relevant to the subject areas provided within the Graduate School.
  • Must be able to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • At least five years of professional experience within the last 10 years in a subject area relevant to programs within the Graduate School.
  • Extensive knowledge of subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the research discipline, including qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies, statistical testing, data analysis techniques, understanding of relevant analysis software, and understanding of the ethical principles of research.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and innovative modes of course delivery adaptable to a variety of learning styles.
  • Understanding of the current American Psychological Association (APA) formatting guidelines.
  • Commitment to collegiality with faculty and staff in support of the university’s mission and goals.
  • Teaching experience of five years or more, to include at least two years teaching and/or committee member at the doctoral level.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with faculty, students, and industry partners on various projects.
  • Ability to master the use of the technology platforms used to support learning and administration of the University including: Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor students through course curriculum and program milestones as a Committee Member.
  • Help the student formulate a long-term plan for implementing revisions of the dissertation in coordination with the Dissertation Chair.
  • Maintain visibility for assigned students, including communicating and meeting with Dissertation Chairs and students.
  • Respond to emails and voicemails in a timely fashion.
  • Mentor and advise students on dissertation revisions.
  • Respond to emails within 2 business days of receipt.
  • Respond to submissions within 5 business days with substantive feedback.
  • Maintain professional competencies in research, a subject area provided in the Graduate School, and currency in instructional methodologies through training and development.
  • Effectively use Office365, Canvas (Learn@), Zoom (Capitol Live), and Student Information System interfaces.
  • May be required to perform other related tasks as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
