About The Position

Sullivan University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Academic Support Faculty (ASF) for the Physician Assistant Program. The ASF will act as a crucial resource for students encountering academic difficulties, aiding in the execution of the program's Academic Support and Remediation Process. Key duties include coordinating remediation activities, tracking student progress, maintaining detailed documentation, and offering academic guidance to students identified as being at academic risk. This is a non-tenure track position.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program or a comparable terminal degree in medicine, health professions education, or basic sciences (e.g., biochemistry, nursing, allied health, pharmacy, MD, DO, etc).
  • At least 2 years of relevant clinical experience outside of schooling, except for principal faculty with graduate level science degrees who teach in the basic sciences.
  • Must hold or have held NCCPA certification, if applicable.
  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, if applicable.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone.

  • Preferred teaching experience in higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Associate Program Director, Director of Didactic Education, Director of Clinical Education, faculty advisors, and course directors to foster student success, support progression, and ensure timely identification and intervention for students facing academic challenges.
  • Develop and maintain remediation assignments and efforts for all didactic examinations.
  • Monitor student completion of remediation assignments and efforts.
  • Track student mastery and completion status of remediation.
  • Maintain records of didactic remediation efforts and outcomes.
  • Monitor students requiring clinical remediation.
  • Verify successful completion of required clinical remediation assignments.
  • Track student mastery and remediation compliance in the clinical setting.
  • Maintain records of clinical remediation efforts and outcomes.
  • Meet with students identified for Academic Support interventions.
  • Conduct follow-up meetings with students experiencing persistent academic challenges.
  • Review study strategies, time management techniques, and test-taking approaches with students.
  • Assist students in identifying obstacles to their academic success.
  • Recommend appropriate academic resources and support services.
  • Track cumulative failed examinations by academic quarter.
  • Identify students who meet intervention thresholds.
  • Notify appropriate faculty and program leadership when intervention thresholds are met.
  • Assist with monitoring Academic Success Plans and Structured Study Plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and student participation.
  • Collaborate with relevant program faculty on remediation and student support needs.
  • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of the Academic Support and Remediation Process.
  • Provide periodic reports on remediation participation, completion rates, and student outcomes.
  • Support program assessment and accreditation documentation efforts as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
