About The Position

The clinician (MD or DO) in this position will function as an addiction medicine provider on the inpatient unit at Center for Dependency, Addiction & Rehabilitation (CeDAR) and affiliated programs within the University of Colorado Health system, providing high quality medical care and supervising fellows, residents and students as needed. This position is based at CeDAR, which is a leading residential addiction treatment center specializing in patients dealing with dual substance use disorders and mental health disorders. This is a .25 FTE commitment.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO).
  • Completed fellowship from an ACGME accredited addiction medicine program.
  • Colorado Medical License and possession of a current DEA Certificate.
  • SAMHSA Data 2000 Buprenorphine Waiver.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in an appropriate medical specialty.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Addiction Medicine.
  • Ability to be fully credentialed with the UCH system and UPI Managed Care.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching students and/or residents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with CeDAR, Department of Family Medicine and Department of Psychiatry faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations.
  • Experience training and developing staff.
  • Ability to meet CeDAR-specific competencies and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full scope of inpatient addiction medicine care, with a primary focus on medically supervised withdrawal management, initiation and continuation of medications for substance use disorders, and stabilization during early recovery.
  • Complete comprehensive medical intakes for all new admissions to CeDAR including: Evaluation and management of acute withdrawal syndromes, Assessment and treatment of chronic medical conditions, Identification and management of new or evolving acute medical complaints, Determination of need for transfer to higher levels of medical care when indicated.
  • Conduct daily inpatient rounds for withdrawal management and stabilization of patients, adjusting treatment plans based on clinical course and interdisciplinary input.
  • Perform pre-admission chart reviews to assess medical appropriateness and level-of-care suitability for prospective CeDAR admissions.
  • Participate in discussions with hospital-based providers to evaluate and coordinate transfers of medically appropriate patients from acute care setting to CeDAR.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, behavioral health, case management, and recovery services to ensure integrated, patient-centered care.
  • Supervise or assist in supervision of advanced practice providers (APPs) at CeDAR.
  • Supervise medical students, residents, fellows and other healthcare learners.
  • Assist in other supervision / administrative functions relating to a variety of addiction treatment service settings including integrated inpatient consult and ambulatory primary care settings, as directed by CeDAR Addiction Medicine Program Director.
  • Provide weekend coverage as required.
  • Provide education to fellows, residents and medical students during their rotations/programs.
  • Supervise learners within the CeDAR American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) fellowship training program in collaboration with the Departments of Family Medicine and Psychiatry Graduate Medical Education Programs.
  • Under the direction of the Director of the ABAM Fellowship program, assure supervision meets all requirements of ABAM.
  • Maintains eligibility for School of Medicine Faculty.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skill.
  • Participate in scholarly activity.
  • Accepts other responsibilities specifically assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Attends and presents at conferences, meetings and trainings in order to maintain certification and enhance professional skills; participates in faculty development activities.
