About The Position

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a federal program committed to helping young people gain employment information, skills and experience. This program aims to support young people, particularly those from communities facing barriers to employment, as they transition into the labour market. The CSJ Addiction and Mental Health Worker will perform duties and responsibilities consistent with providing a psychosocial environment to assist with the engagement and community integration/connection of individuals accessing Independent Housing Services. Requirements

Will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and am legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Post-secondary education completed or in progress within social services, mental health and/or addictions
Valid Driver’s Licence
Access to a vehicle for personal transportation
Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

Responsibilities

Advocate, refer and connect individuals with appropriate services, supports, and resources (formal and informal) based on their needs.
Support clients when attending various appointments to feel heard, to build and access coping tools to engage in these settings, and to help clients process information being shared around wellness and how to integrate into daily living routines
Provide health teaching to both staff and individuals accessing services
Assist and coach individuals in the learning and achievement of activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, daily chores, cooking and nutrition, budgeting, interpersonal skills, etc.
Plan and implement seasonal engagement projects across properties where clients reside within Supportive Independent Housing Programs (gardening, client BBQ’s etc.)
Champion each individual’s capacity for independent community living
Computerized documentation maintaining client records
Ensure effective communication with Manager, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning individual’s progress
Crisis intervention and prevention; identify crisis/safety concerns, promote resolution alongside colleagues, and safety planning/management of all emergency situations concerning clients, staff, and property
