About The Position

Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers people with disabilities to realize their potential through outdoor recreation. Under the direction of the Program Manager, Adaptive Snowsports Instructors lead high-quality, professional lessons to participants with disabilities in adaptive alpine skiing, sit skiing, snowboarding, and ski biking. Snowsports programs are held primarily at Snowbird and Sundance Resorts. Other winter programs include snowshoeing, indoor cycling, and yoga. The team creates access and belonging through their passion for skiing, biking, snowboarding, paddling, and more.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• First Aid/CPR/AED certified or willing to obtain upon hire
• Ski and/or snowboard at an advanced level
• 1-3 years experience teaching recreation skills, preferably to people with disabilities.
• Ability to perform outdoor, physical work in variable weather conditions for long periods of time
• Strong attention to detail
• Commitment to continuous personal skill development
• Demonstrate effective team behavior and interpersonal relationships
• Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work environment
• A passion for Wasatch Adaptive Sports mission and work

Nice To Haves

• PSIA-AASI Certification
• Familiarity with or willingness to learn Google Drive, Slack, and Salesforce.

Responsibilities

• Teach skiing, snowboarding, sit skiing and/or ski biking program lessons according to WAS teaching progressions.
• Learn to adapt all equipment to varying abilities through training and lessons.
• Develop a strong teaching ability by regularly attending in-house clinics and other professional training.
• Establish a strong pre-lesson plan and on-snow assessment.
• Adhere to all risk management protocols to ensure the safety of all students and instructors.
• Track and evaluate student goals and progressions.
• Communicate respectfully and think critically to promote a positive program culture.
