About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to collaborate with para-professionals and licensed professionals to design, fabricate and modify adaptive equipment and devices, inclusive of but not limited to special protective devices (i.e. helmets, arm and leg wraps, cuffs, mittens, restraints, etc…), mobility and positioning aids (i.e. wheelchairs, walkers, bathing/toileting chairs, wedges, belts, mechanical lifts, etc.), prescribed footwear and orthotic devices. This individual will also repair and deliver the aforementioned items as needed or requested and participate in inspection and inventory management of the same. This Position Is Designated As Mandatory And Must Report Or Stay Over During Adverse Weather Events.

Requirements

  • High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience directly related to the performance of tasks associated with carpentry and/or upholstery; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic carpentry skills.
  • Basic upholstery skills.
  • Good ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Basic arithmetic skills, including the addition and subtraction of fractions and currency.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written and sketched instructions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift light to heavy loads.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience working with intellectually and developmentally delayed people.
  • Must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.

Responsibilities
