The Adaptive Certified Fitness Trainer delivers safe, individualized adaptive fitness sessions for people with developmental and physical disabilities, supporting their health, wellness, and functional goals. The trainer follows participant-specific training plans aligned with Individual Program Plans (IPPs), monitors attendance, engagement, and progress, and contributes to updates and documentation for Individual Service Plans (ISPs). The role includes communicating with the Lead Trainer, assisting with community-based activities at approved facilities, and maintaining confidential, professional, and supportive interactions with participants and their support teams. The position reports to the Adaptive Certified Lead Trainer and collaborates with the CEO or an assigned Supervisor to align services with program expectations and participant objectives. Duties also include assisting with onboarding, consultations, orientation, and free sessions as needed. This position is a mandated reporter under California law; staff will receive training on reporting suspected abuse or neglect. Staff also receive training under the organization’s Injury and Illness Prevention Plan. This is a non-exempt, hourly, at-will position. New employees have a 90-day probationary period, which management may extend. A background check with fingerprint clearance is required before starting, and the online portion of the Adaptive Training Certification must be completed before placement on payroll. Special Strong will pay for that certification. Available shifts are between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday; the role may be part-time or full-time depending on availability and program demand. Flexible work-from-home options are available.
