AD Investment Accounting Reporting The Assistant Director (AD), Investment Accounting at Hartford Investment Management Company (HIMCO) will be responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely preparation and submission of financial reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and internal policies. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance accounting principles and excellent analytical skills. This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial reporting, preferably within investment/insurance industry.
  • Strong understanding of insurance accounting principles and statutory reporting requirements (NAIC).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • TM1, Wdesk, and Copilot is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of the quarterly statutory investment footnotes and schedules, including statutory, GAAP, and management reports, for HIMCO.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, SSAP) and regulatory requirements (e.g., NAIC, SEC).
  • Support the monthly close process by reviewing the monthly reconciliations, as well as overseeing any necessary manual accounting entries
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide insightful explanations for variances to senior management.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting reporting function.
  • Participate in special projects and ad-hoc analysis as required by management.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in accounting regulations and industry best practices.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
