About The Position

The Acute Phlebotomist at Fostoria Community Hospital collects products and/or specimens for procedures and performs testing while caring for patients before, during, and after collection. The role performs pre-analytic sample-preparation tasks, including centrifugation, decanting, specimen distribution, and specimen packaging. The phlebotomist uses quality assurance data to enhance services, recommends procedural changes to address quality issues, and supports customer satisfaction. The role requires familiarity with test names and abbreviations and the ability to cross-reference tests with specimen types. The phlebotomist follows strict asepsis and antisepsis principles and may help train new associates or students.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Diploma from an accredited phlebotomy training institute or one year of phlebotomy experience.
Successful completion of an academic program that included substantial practical clinical phlebotomy experience, such as a three-or-more-week clinical student rotation program in a hospital setting.

Nice To Haves

Professional registration, such as PBT(ASCP).
One year of experience in a high-volume phlebotomy environment.
