About The Position

The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC), a member of Hartford HealthCare, is seeking talented physicians to join its growing Acute Care Surgery Program in Central Connecticut. Two opportunities are available within a collaborative, high-performing team dedicated to trauma, emergency general surgery, critical care, education, and outstanding patient care. One position is for an Acute Care Surgeon / Surgical Intensivist to join a well-established team providing comprehensive trauma, emergency general surgery, and critical care services. Candidates with fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care and/or an interest in trauma and acute care surgery are encouraged to apply. The second opportunity is a Trauma Program Leadership role for an experienced Acute Care or Trauma Surgeon to help lead the continued growth of the Trauma Program. This physician leader will be instrumental in advancing clinical excellence, mentoring surgeons and APPs, supporting quality initiatives, and preparing for future Level II Trauma Center designation. The Hospital of Central Connecticut is a busy community teaching hospital and a designated Level III Trauma Center with plans to pursue Level II Trauma Center verification in 2028. The Acute Care Surgery Program includes seven full-time Acute Care Surgery and Trauma Surgeons, seven full-time Trauma Advanced Practice Providers, more than 25 Surgical and Critical Care APPs, and collaborative multidisciplinary trauma and critical care teams. The program has academic affiliations with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and Quinnipiac University School of Medicine, a growing robotic emergency general surgery program, and opportunities to develop elective surgery practices. In 2025, the trauma program evaluated over 2,600 trauma patients and admitted over 1300 patients, offering a high-volume and diverse clinical experience.

Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
  • Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care preferred for intensivist position.
  • Eligible for Connecticut medical licensure.
  • Demonstrated trauma or acute care surgery leadership experience (for leadership candidates).
  • Physicians with three or more years of experience preferred; outstanding early-career candidates will be considered.
