Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy.
  • 5 years of surgical experience.
  • NY State Medical License
  • Board Certification: Surgery
  • Board Certification/Board Eligibility Trauma/Surgical Critical Care
  • ACLS and ATLS certification required.
  • PALS
  • Opioid Prescriber Cert
  • NYS Infection Control
  • DEA Certification, valid and unrestricted
  • Prolonged standing.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
  • Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
  • May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Providing trauma and acute surgery coverage consistent with the standards of care of Garnet Health Medical Center.
  • Educating, consulting and managing the surgical patient population.
  • Assisting the patient/family, the patient care team and other physicians and providers.
  • Working collaboratively with the health care team including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, anesthesiologists, other physicians involved in the surgical patient care, nurses, case management, physical and occupational therapy and with departments affecting the care of the surgical patient.
  • Acting as a clinical educator working with staff on surgical competencies, new procedures and advanced practice skills.
  • Working with the care team to implement necessary medical aspects of patient care.
  • Using skills to affect a quality patient experience.
