The NP Surgical Specialty-Operative is a licensed, certified healthcare provider who offers direct patient care and has prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as an independent provider by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Surgical providers care for adult and pediatric patients and specialize in various surgical specialties including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic, Vascular, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, and Plastics. This role involves assessing patients' physical and mental conditions, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing medical therapies. The NP will formulate and implement comprehensive patient treatment plans, collaborate with physicians and team members, and evaluate patient responses to care. They will also counsel patients and families on medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion, while maintaining appropriate records. The position requires initiating timely consultations and referrals when problems exceed the scope of practice or expertise. The NP will manage patients in various healthcare settings, including inpatient, emergency services, and surgical/procedural areas. They will perform invasive procedures specific to their scope of practice and expertise, serve as First or Second assist in the operating room or procedural setting, and perform pre- and post-operative follow-ups. Rounding on hospital patients or seeing patients in the emergency department may also be required. Patient care duties beyond the regular schedule may be necessary based on department coverage needs.
