About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for their Inpatient Transplant Hepatology team. This role involves providing advanced health assessment and decision-making skills in a hospital setting, working collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The position requires participation in on-call rotations, covering various shifts, weekends, and holidays. The patient population includes pre and post-liver transplant patients, and those with other acute hepatologic conditions. The role may also involve patient and family education, research, and educational activities, as well as serving as a mentor and participating in clinical improvement initiatives. Flexibility in scheduling to meet patient and staff needs, and the ability to manage time and stress effectively are essential.

Requirements

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Masters-prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program.
Current AZ RN and APRN license and certification as a ACNP or AGACNP
Physician Assistant: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the AZ State Board of Medical Practice.
Active BLS and ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross at start date.
DEA registration required.

Transplant or Internal Medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical services in a hospital setting, either on an admitting or consultative service greater than 50% of the time.
Participate in the on-call rotation and provide coverage for various shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Provide primary and specialty health care to new and established patients.
Assess and manage common acute and chronic illnesses.
Consult and make referrals.
Collaborate with physicians and other members of the health care team.
Obtain patient history and perform comprehensive assessments.
Order, conduct, and interpret diagnostic tests.
Prescribe pharmacological agents and treatments, and non-pharmacological therapies.
Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
Make appropriate referrals.
Perform minor procedures as approved by the AZ Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
Be involved in patient and family education of disease management and treatments.
May be involved in research or educational activities within their department.
Serve as mentors.
Participate in clinical improvement and research projects as appropriate to the clinical setting.
Demonstrate leadership through involvement on committees and team projects, education, and research.
Actively seek to improve the practice through performance improvement initiatives.
Remain active in professional organizations and participate in community activities.
Adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
Manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
