About The Position

The Sun Life Actuarial Internship Program is designed for aspiring actuarial professionals and supports the development of Sun Life’s actuarial community by fostering an environment that helps students prepare for and pass actuarial exams. Interns build technical skills, learn insurance concepts, product features and contracts, and gain an understanding of the insurance business. They use technology-based tools to analyze information and solve problems, and contribute to their teams through real entry-level actuarial projects. Toward the end of the internship, interns present their summer experience to peers, managers, and members of the actuarial community.

The summer experience also includes lunch-and-learn sessions, networking with business leaders and actuarial colleagues, and social activities with interns from across the organization. The internship is hybrid, and interns must be located near one of Sun Life’s U.S. offices in Wellesley, Massachusetts; Kansas City, Missouri; Hartford, Connecticut; Portland, Maine; or Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to the actuarial profession.
• Ability to translate complex, abstract concepts and theory.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Degree program preferably in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related area.
• Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028.
• Prior actuarial internship experience.
• Excel/VBA proficiency.
• Programming skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete entry-level actuarial projects that contribute to the intern’s team.
• Use technology-based tools to perform analysis and solve problems.
• Build technical skills and learn insurance concepts, product features, contracts, and the insurance business.
• Present the summer internship experience to peers, managers, and members of the Sun Life actuarial community.
