About The Position

The Actuarial Intern acquires and analyzes data while assisting members of the actuarial team with ongoing projects. The intern communicates with actuarial team members and managers, participates in decision-making by identifying issues and recommending solutions, and supports business partners through analysis. This is a 10-week internship.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related area.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Interest in enhancing classroom learning through practical, career-related work experience in the industry.
• No related work experience is required.

Nice To Haves

• Rising junior or senior student.
• Knowledge and practical application of statistical software such as SQL, R, or Python.
• Completion of one to two Actuarial Society examinations.
• Basic knowledge of insurance, business, and finance.

Responsibilities

• Assist the actuarial team with analysis for statistical rating studies, applying mathematics, statistics, finance, and business concepts to property and casualty insurance problems.
• Download, manipulate, and compile data into usable formats, including programming in spreadsheets and/or databases.
• Participate in studies and projects focused on reserving, pricing, and profitability.
• Learn about and observe business interactions with other departments.
• Become proficient in working with large data files using appropriate software.
• Perform other analyses as assigned to support business partners.
• Communicate with actuarial team members and managers.
• Identify issues and recommend solutions as part of the decision-making process.
