About The Position

The Actuarial Co-op Program at Manulife is designed to provide students with valuable exposure to key actuarial disciplines, including pricing, valuation, modeling, risk management, asset liability management, and experience analytics. Co-op students will develop crucial technical and business skills while collaborating with industry-leading actuaries and professionals in a supportive learning environment. The program offers a vibrant community, engaging events, competitive compensation with exam study support, personalized mentorship, and access to Canada’s largest actuarial network. This co-op program also offers early access to Manulife’s premier early talent program, Graduate Recruitment Opportunities (GRO), tailored to graduating students.

Requirements

  • Working towards a University degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Possessing relevant actuarial experience and demonstrating a strong commitment towards FSA/FCIA designations (e.g. passing at least one SOA exam) are considered assets.

Nice To Haves

  • A working knowledge of Excel is required; experience with AXIS or other actuarial software is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to effectively present issues, options, and recommendations to both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences.
  • Solution-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter and team player with a high level of initiative and strong work ethic.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities in prior roles and/or extracurricular activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside actuarial professionals, gaining insights into industry standards and practices while picking up professional effectiveness habits.
  • Build a professional network in one of the largest actuarial employers in North America.
  • Attend presentations from guest speakers on a variety of topics (such as AXIS modelling, actuarial functions, and exam study tips).
  • Develop technical and soft skills by participating in presentations.
