About The Position

This internship is for an Actuarial Analyst role within Howden Re, a global reinsurance broker and risk, capital & strategic advisor. The role involves working with an energetic, quantitative, client-facing team that specializes in creating and executing P&C reserve solutions. This includes preparing client submissions, working on loss portfolio transfers, and capital modeling. The team offers opportunities for learning, advancement, and taking on responsibility. Reinsurance is described as insurance for insurers, and the intern will help insurance companies protect their futures. The role involves working across analytics, brokers, and other functions to identify and respond to client needs, and develop opportunities related to products and services. Data will be collected and manipulated in spreadsheets and other database applications, followed by the preparation of client-ready presentations to communicate analysis results.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Pay close attention to detail
• Legally authorized to work in the US

Nice To Haves

• Advanced degree
• Experience in the (re)insurance industry
• Completion of Actuarial exam(s) or be actively studying for an exam

Responsibilities

• Create client submissions
• Work on loss portfolio transfers
• Perform capital modeling
• Identify and respond to client needs
• Develop additional opportunities related to products and services
• Collect and manipulate data in spreadsheets and other database applications
• Prepare client-ready presentations to communicate analysis results to brokers and clients
• Understand reinsurance contracts and products (terminology, terms and conditions)
• Manage workflow proactively
• Take initiative on internal projects to improve processes, products or services
• Take ownership and responsibility for quality, accuracy and timely completion of analyses
• Offer help to others without prompting
