About The Position

The Activity Director is responsible for encouraging residents to maintain and develop their fullest potential for independent living through participation in activity and recreational programs. This role involves assisting and working with volunteers, involving CNAs in group activities, and maintaining an inventory of supplies. The Activity Director will create a monthly activity calendar, chart daily activities and attendance, and ensure activities are offered as identified on resident service plans. They will also maintain a scrapbook and Facebook page, participate in in-service and department head meetings, and ensure the activity room is kept clean and orderly. A key aspect of this role is maintaining positive working relationships with residents, families, the community, vendors, and staff. The position may require working different days or hours for special events and providing one-on-one visits for residents not attending group activities. Professional conduct, including refraining from gossip and adhering to universal precautions due to potential exposure to blood/bodily fluids, is expected. Occasional heavy lifting of up to 40 lbs. may be required.

Requirements

  • Must be 17 years or older.
  • Must be in good health and properly immunized against infectious diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.
  • Must provide written proof of a recent TB test or obtain one within two weeks of the date of hire.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a current Food Handler's Permit or obtain one within two weeks.
  • Must be positive and encouraging and have the ability to motivate residents to participate in activities.

Responsibilities

  • Residents shall be encouraged to maintain and develop their fullest potential for independent living through participation in activity and recreational programs.
  • Will assist and work with volunteers and find ways to be able to utilize the assistance from volunteers.
  • Involve C.N.A.'s in assisting with group activities.
  • Maintain inventory of needed supplies for a variety of different activities.
  • Will create a monthly activity calendar with a wide variety of enjoyable activities for the residents.
  • Must do daily activity and attendance charting on each resident.
  • Will follow the monthly activity calendar on the days scheduled to work.
  • Will ensure that activities are offered to each resident as identified on the resident service plan.
  • Will maintain a scrapbook and Facebook page of the facility's new happenings and activities.
  • Must participate in required monthly In-Service and weekly department head meetings.
  • Will make sure that the activity room is left clean and orderly at the end of their shift.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with all customers, including residents, family members, community, vendors, and staff.
  • May be asked to work different days or hours should a special activity/event that requires more activity assistance fall on a day off.
  • Will provide 1:1 visits/interaction with residents that are not attending group activities.
  • Will not participate in gossip of any kind.
  • Will conduct self professionally.
  • And all other duties as assigned by Administration
