About The Position

The Activity Assistant assists with planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and directing individual and group activities and recreation within the facility. The role promotes recreational engagement for patients and their families, helps new patients become familiar with the facility’s programs and community, and documents activity interventions and patient progress in medical records. The Activity Assistant helps maintain a safe environment and approaches patients and customers with a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR certification and de-escalation/restraint certification are required; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s degree in activity therapy or a related field.
• Previous recreation experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of the patient population served by the facility.
• First aid may be required depending on state or facility.

Responsibilities

• Organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities for patients and their families.
• Welcome new patients, introduce them to other patients and staff, explain programs, and encourage participation.
• Explain activity rules and instruct participants with varying skill levels.
• Document activity interventions and patient progress in medical records according to facility requirements.
• Seek supervision and support when complications arise while working with a patient individually or in a group.
• Enforce safety rules to prevent injury and modify activities to meet the needs of specific groups.
• Organize and set up equipment used in recreational activities.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers; acknowledge and work to resolve unmet patient needs and complaints, prioritizing patient safety.
• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
