About The Position

Maple View Memory Care is seeking a compassionate Activity Aide to create meaningful programming for residents living with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and related conditions. The role focuses on creating a warm, structured environment in which residents can participate at their individual ability levels. The aide works closely with nursing and care staff to tailor activities to residents' histories, preferences, and cognitive needs, using familiar routines and activities to support comfort, recognition, and trust.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Understanding of dementia care approaches and techniques, or willingness to learn them.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage residents, families, and coworkers respectfully.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift light materials, and assist residents during activities.
• Reliability, flexibility, and a team-oriented attitude.
• Patience, observance, steadiness, empathy, and creativity.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in senior care, memory care, or a related setting.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and lead daily group and individual activities, including music, art, reminiscence, light exercise, sensory engagement, and seasonal events.
• Adapt programming for residents at varying stages of memory loss so each person has an opportunity to participate successfully.
• Observe and document residents' responses, including changes in mood, engagement, and participation, for the care team.
• Encourage social interaction and provide gentle one-on-one companionship to residents who are withdrawn or anxious.
• Set up and clean activity spaces, maintain supplies, and ensure materials are safe and appropriate.
• Assist residents to and from activities, providing patient cueing and reassurance.
• Collaborate with families to incorporate residents' personal interests and life stories into the activity calendar.
